Gombe releases N27m for students scholarship

From Abubakar Haruna, in Gombe

The Gombe State Government has released the sum of N27 million for the payment of students’ scholarship in the state.

This was revealed by the state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Habu Dahiru while briefing newsmen in Gombe last week.

Dr. Habu Dahiru said all necessary arrangements have been concluded and payment has already commenced at the state’s scholarship board.

He called on the entire students in the state to be law abiding while collecting their allowances.

He also said that "this shows the state government’s effort towards improving the standard of education in the state."

When Daily Trust contacted some of the indigent "students" who came from various higher institutions to collect their scholarship at the state scholarship board, they complained that the amount was too meagre to meet their responsibilities.

It will be recalled that the state government is paying N4,000 annually as scholarship to each student in the state while the neighbouring Bauchi, Adamawa, Yobe and Borno States are paying not less than N10,000 to their students.
