He described the Econet effort as a thing worthy of praise, saying "itís a state-of-the-art infrastructure for emergency medical evacuation, telemedicine and easy access to the Nigeria Police and fire service," adding that the company had continued to demonstrate its commitment to the development of the country not just by its financial investments in the telecommunications industry.

He said that Econet had continued to invest also on community development and social service, adding that the crisis centre has the capacity to transform emergency management service delivery in the country.

Econet marketing manager, Mr. Bolaji Balogun stated that the service would be essentially free for subscribers, but that calls on 199 would attract the normal call tariff.
