PREMIER LEAGUE

Orode leads goals race

Little known Jigawa Golden Stars of Dutse striker Vincent Orode is top of the goals chart after the first round of matches in the Premier League.

According to League Chief Salihu Abubakar, the 19-year-old former Kwara Stars forward has so far scored 6 goals half way through the Premier League.

Orode, uncapped at any level, has also featured for NUB Kaduna and Mobil Pegasus of Uyo.

‘Old war horse’ Rashidi Yekini is closely behind in the goals race with five goals for Julius Berger of Lagos.

Also on five goals is Shooting Stars of Ibadan reject Waheed Bello, who has been in fine form for Kwara United of Ilorin.

Top strikers like Victor Ezeji and Joetex Frimpong, joint top scorers last season with 16 goals each, are expected to feature more prominently in the goals race when the second round of the championship kicks off 3 May.

Ezeji has bounced back from an indifferent form to score two goals thus far while Frimpong has only been cleared to play for champions Enyimba after protracted transfer negotiations with El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.
