From CharlesOnyekamuo in Awka

Former Senate President and Vice presidential candidate of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, has said the ANPP government would evolve an all encompassing national programme on security to help sanitise the escalating security situation inthe country. He said the programme would aim at equipping and beefing up the police in supervising community based vigilante groups for an effective security network.

Okadigbo, who spoke to traders in Onitsha yesterday said the security operatives would receive adequate trainings backed up with modern communication gadgets to enable them fight crimes.

He said the Anambra Vigilante Service (AVS) a.k.a "Bakassi Boys" failed because it derailed from its laid down objectives of fighting crime before it reversed as a tool of oppression in the hands of the state government. He said an ANPP administration would modernise vigilante organisations nationwide and install a mighty fire brigade as part of its security measures for the market.
