'I Won't Be Party to Violence'
By Wale Olaleye

Former Chairman, Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State and House of Representatives Candidate for Mushin Federal Constituency (I) on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Alhaji Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, has said he would never be a party to the perpetration of violence that will undermine the present transition programme.

Solomon, who said this yesterday, urged the people to use as criteria, the performance of the AD led government to vote for the various political office candidates in the forthcoming elections.

Reacting to a recent attack on his supporters at his campaign office in Mushin, a development which left scores of people and property worth millions of naira damaged. Solomon noted that the development ought not to come up when the country's transition programme rule was receiving positive support from the massess.

"The last thing I will do is retaliate. Immediately I got hint of the development, I went round to make sure that no attempt was being made towards retaliation. The boys were badly injured of course, but I hate being associated with violence of any sort. Besides, I have chosen to go about it in the civilised way; I have petitioned the necessary authorities which I believe would handle the situation properly.

"Besides, this is coming at a time the federal government is seriously campaigning against violence. Therefore, if there is a good case in sight like us, the people, I am sure would be interested in how government would come in and perhaps, use this as a scape-goat to others," he said.
