MASSOB to FG: 'Prove That Uwazurike is Alive'
The nothern regional headquarters of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has asked the Federal Government to show proof that the group's leader, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, was still alive. Security agents recently arrested Uwazurike in an encounter during which some members of MASSOB reportedly lost their lives. In a statement in Kaduna yesterday, MASSOB said, "if on the other hand Chief Uwazurike is still alive, Gen. Obasanjo and the BiafraNigeria Police must be compelled to take him to court, in accordance with the rule of law which the President swore to defend." The MASSOB northern representative, Mr. Leonard Ukatu, and executive secretary, Mr. Godwin C.A. Igbokwe, jointly signed the statement in which the group equally demanded that formal charges be brought against Uwazurike. The statement said, "holding Chief Uwazurike beyond 24 hours after a court verdict, is a breach of his fundamental human rights. (This Day)
