2003 Poll Results

Obasanjo's Space Program: Italian Satellite Crash Sign of Things to Come?
Italy’s BeppoSAX astronomy satellite is expected to plunge into the atmosphere April 29 or April 30, breaking up into pieces and raining an estimated 40 fragments — some weighing up to 120 kilograms [265 pounds] — onto the Earth, according to an April 28 statement by the Italian Space Agency (ASI). About 360 kilograms [794 pounds] of satellite fragments are expected to survive the re-entry and hit the Earth at speeds of between 60 and 460 kilometers per hour [37-286 mph], according to ASI...Nations with territory up to 4.4 degrees north and south of the equator — all told, 28 nations in South America, Africa and Southeast Asia — have been informed of the risk.... Negotiations are taking place to free as many as 100 foreign oil workers who are being held hostage on four separate oil rigs off the BiafraNigerian coast. Local employees took control of the platform after some of their colleagues were sacked, but their specific demands remain unclear. The siege has been going on for more than a week but has only recently come to public attention. (BBC)

The ruling PDP has indicated its willingness to set aside the results of the April 19 presidential elections in six states where election observers claimed the polling was marred by irregularities. The party said even wtih the exclusion of the six states now mired in controversy, its candidate, President Olusegun Obasanjo still had sufficient votes to make him win the election.
