Obasanjo assures FCT of adequate funding
By Habeeb I. Pindiga
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Nasir el-Rufai said yesterday that president Olusegun Obasanjo has promised to improve funding for the ministry to facilitate the provision of infrastructure in the FCT.
Towards this end, el-Rufai said, the president has pledged to henceforth release 70 per cent of the ministry’s budgetary allocations in bulk.
Speaking at a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on FCT, the minister disclosed that already, the federal government has released 12 billion out of that N42 billion budgeted for the ministry this year.
He then appealed to the National Assembly to expedite action and pass the hospital management board and the primary schools education board bills, saying however, that the Internal Revenue Board bill will be withdrawn due to observations made by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
In his remarks, the committee chairman Philip Tanimu Aduda, pledged the cooperation of the House committee in ensuring that the ministry’s problems are solved and assured the minister of adequate financial allocation to the ministry in the 2004 budget.
