Gombe Audits Civil Service Personnel
From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe

Gombe State Government would not employ new workers until the staff strength of the state government was determined.

The state Head of Service, Alhaji Yakubu Badah, disclosed this while inaugurating a seven-man personnel audit committee headed by Hajiya Halima Malala.

According to the Head of Service, the government was finding it difficult to plan for the workers due to the abscence of accurate statistics on the staff strength in the service.

He said some ministries and parastatals are understaffed while some were heavily overstaffed.

"We have to ascertain the authentic staff strength in the state. Lack of authentic record has prevented the government from taking appropriate action," Badah said.

He explained that the report of the committee would determine the action government would take concerning the rationalisation or otherwise of the workforce, or even embarking on employment in some areas.

Badah, who explained that all local government staff employed between June last year and now would have their appointments terminated, appealed to permanent secretaries and civil servants in the state to co-operate with the audit committee.

The chairman of the committee, Hajia Malala, promised to live up to expectation.
