Ministerial List: Constitutional Glitch Stops Obasanjo's Attempt to Pull Fast One
President Olusegun Obasanjo's plan to beat lobbyists and party chieftains putting pressures on him over who should be made ministers by submitting a list of nominees to the Senate Friday last week was checkmated by a constitutional provision raised by one of the Senators...the president had by Thursday morning had the final list of ministerial nominees ready. He had also planned to stave off the barrage of pressures from leaders of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governors elected on the party's platform and other influential individuals who had suggested names of people to be made ministers by submitting the list to the senate leadership after his address to the joint session of the National Assembly Thursday. A presidency source disclosed that Obasanjo got the final list ready after a meeting with Vice President Atiku Abubakar and PDP national chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh...at a late Thursday evening meeting he had with the leadership of the Senate after his address to the joint session, the president hinted that he was ready to submit the list of ministers.
