2003 Poll Results

2003 Polls: We've Enough Evidence to Get Polls Cancelled, Says MDJ
The leadership of the Movement for Democracy and Justice (MDJ), said yesterdayit filed a petition before the Court of Appeal to challenge the validity of the April 19 presidential polls because it has sufficient evidence to get the elections cancelled. Also yesterday, presidential candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, said only the return of the five South-eastern states to his party would guarantee peace in the country. Speaking in Abuja, the national chairman of MDJ, Alhaji Khalil Al-Gazah, said his party had enough evidence on what he described as the several violations of the constitution and the Electoral Act by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Other points around which the party would build its case at the Appeal Court include cases of intimidation, rigging and irregularities, which he said characterised the election. The MDJ, Ghazali said, would seek to prove that "there were no elections in the first place." "What they consider an election was nothing but a charade. It was characterised by all sorts of electoral malpractices, officials of INEC being used by both the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) and ANPP (All Nigeria Peoples Party). Actually, we were technically rigged out," he said. (This Day)

The ruling PDP continued its winning streak in the general elections, sweeping most of the state houses of assembly seats announced yesterday. *Ogun StateIn Ogun State, the PDP won 25 out of the 26 seats, with AD winning only one seat. The constituencies PDP won are Odogbolu, Odeda, Ikenne, Obafemi/Owode, Ijebu-Ode, Ipokia, Atan-Ilugun, Ago Iwoye,.... (Vanguard)

The All BiafraNigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate and former Head of State, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has ruled out the possibility of ANPP joining rival PDP in a government of national unity. This, he said, was because ANPP won the last general election and would definitely form the government of the country soon. (This Day)
