The week-long build up of security within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja in preparation for the inauguration of President Olusegun Obasanjo's second term in office peaked yesterday. At the Eagle Square, venue of the event, security operatives literally took over the entire place, creating an atmosphere of palpable fears among the people. It was only (This Day)


Former military ruler, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and his running mate in the April 19 presidential elections, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, have denied calling for the assassination of President Olusegun Obasanjo. They also described as false a statement by the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) that they have invited mercenaries into the country to achieve any sinister purpose. (Guardian)
