Targetting Igbo Politicians for Murder?: John Nwodo Cries Out
Chief John Nnia Nwodo (jnr), Nigeria's ex-Information minister who was with late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo during the tear-gas episode at the solidarity rally of the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) in Kano on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 has alerted the nation about threats to his own life. In a chat with newsmen, Thursday, Nwodo revealed that unidentified gunmen had earlier attacked his Enugu home less than 24 hours after his police orderlies were withdrawn and wonders why he should be a target for elimination. He also spoke of strange phone calls he has been receiving since the death of Okadigbo. The former ANPP presidential aspirant lamented that Okadigbo, perhaps, could have lived if he had his police orderlies at the ill-fated rally in Kano as he recalled what the deceased told him when both of them arrived the venue of the rally. Said Nwodo: "You see, one of the things I always remember about Chuba's death is that when we came out of the car and before we had the tear-gas attack, Chuba looked at the crowd and the difficulty we had in walking up to the state box, and then he called me by my title name and said: 'Ike Ukehe, look at me, former number three man in Nigeria, I have no police protection.
