BNW Uba and Ngige

At the Alter of the Ogwugwu Gods: How Ngige, Uba Visited Okija Shrine
Okija shrines may be strange to the rest of the world, but not to its prominent clients, which include the Anambra State governor, Dr. Chris Ngige and his erstwhile godfather, Chief Chris Uba. [T]he shrines in which police last week uncovered several human skulls and corpses of people believed to have been killed recently has been playing host to many prominent politicians who patronise them for various reasons. [I]t was an Okija shrine that the Anambra governor was taken to by Uba early last year as a Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoles Democratic Party (PDP). The revelation about a visit to the shrine became public knowledge following the aborted abduction of Ngige on July 10 last year by supporters of Uba. Four officials of the Anambra government last night confirmed...that the governor and his assailants were actually at the alter of the Ogwugwu gods to swear on oath though they contradicted one another as to whether or not Ngige actually swore at the shrine. Golgotha in Anambra: 50 Corpses, Skulls...

Biafra Nigeria Map

BNW Arewa LogoThe notice served by President Olusegun Obasanjo to the effect that the federal workforce, estimated at 180,000, would be pruned is unsettling to Labour which analysed the situation and warned that the cost of the move, if carried out, would outweigh the benefits. All the trade unions in the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) are being summoned to a meeting scheduled to hold in the next... (Vanguard)

BNW Human SkullsAnambra State police command yesterday recovered 20 skulls, most of them fresh, and about 50 corpses at Ogwugwu Okija shrines in Ihiala local government area of the state. Heavily armed policemen in 10 trucks, mostly men of the special anti-robbery squad, were accompanied by the state commissioner of police, Mr. Felix Ogbaudu in the raid. (Champion)
