DA Blames Assembly over Crisis
By Yemi Akinsuyi

A political party, The Democratic Alternative (DA) has added its voice to the on-going political crisis in Anambra State, saying that the State House of Assembly should be blamed for not tackling the problem immediately the purported resignation letter by Dr. Chris Ngige, got to them.

In a release signed by the General Secretary of the party, Mr Kehinde Edremoda, and made available to THISDAY, said the House should have set up an investigation panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the governor's resignation before swearing-in the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Okey Ude.

"Procedurally, the Anambra State Assembly has a fundamental constitutional role towards resolving the political crisis but because members of the Anambra State Assembly were also a culprit in the entire show of shame, they were unable to play their constitution roles.

"An investigation panel must have been set-up by the State Assembly to investigate the circumstances behind the Governor's resignation. Not the way members of Anambra State House of Assembly conducted themselves by the immediate acceptance of the resignation letter and subsequent swearing-in ceremony of the Deputy Governor Dr. Okey Ude.

"Procedurally, the supposedly swearing-in ceremony of Dr. Oke Ude is faulty because if truly Dr. Chris Ngige resigned, he would have played his constitutional role of handing over power to his deputy. This was not the case. Certainly, it must have been done publicity not in hiding", the statement said.
