Makarfi Seeks State Control of Police From Agaju Madugba in Kaduna
Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi has asked the Federal Government to allow states to manage the Nigeria Police, for an enhanced security of lives and property nationwide.
According to Makarfi, "If this is done, the multiplier effects will begin to flow, investments will come and crime rate will drop." Makarfi spoke yesterday when the Minister of Police Affairs, Chief Broderick Bozimo, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House. Bozimo was in Kaduna as part of his tour of police formations across the country. Decrying inadequacies in terms of training and equipment for the Police, Makarfi said the "Federal Government should deal with other basic things deserving its attention." Makarfi equally canvassed what he described as "restructuring responsibilities" among the Federal, states and local government. Given what he called competing demands, Bozimo had earlier regretted the inability of the Federal Government to meet certain funding requirements for more effective police operations. He commended Makarfi for his assistance to the Kaduna State Police Command. |
