Wild Wild West: Police Arrest Former Ogun Gov., Osoba, in Ilaro Crisis
A police team from zone two, Onikan, Lagos last night effected the arrest of the immediate past governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba in connection with last Tuesday attack on his successor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel at Iloro. Governor Daniel had alleged that the attack by students of the Federal Polytechnic, Iloro was initiated by Chief Osoba. The policemen - four in number - arrived the Bourdillwn Road, Illoji residence of Chief Osoba at 6.10p.m yesterday to invite him for a “meeting” with Inspector General of Police for zone II. Three of the policmen were in uniform while the fourth was in mufti. They drove in a Peugeot station wagon with registration number NPF 507B and with “Operation Fire for Fire” included on its sides. Chief Osoba who expressed surprise at the police arriving at that time of the day and a Friday for that matter agreed to go with them at about 7.02p.m in his Mercedis Benz Jeep. He went in the company of his wife, Aderinsola, with their son, Olumide behind the wheels. Chief Osoba had said in reaction to Governor Daniel’s allegation that he knew nothing about the Iloro attack and that if the allegation was all political vendetta. At about 9 pm, Osoba was given a bail bond to sign, after which he was later released.
