Milestone: BNW Celebrates 5th Anniversary
Five years ago today,
the first message was posted on the Biafra Nigeria World (BNW) Forums and Message Board. That first message, posted by "Biafra", came just two days after the bare-bone BNW site came into being on March 17 2001.
Informed by the proposition that all men are created equal, and that free speech is the cornerstone of the successful exchange of ideas, the founders of BNW created the Message Board with the clear objective to foster dialogue and the free expression of ideas. Without free speech, dictators and villains roam society unchecked, their crimes go unexposed, and therefore unpunished.
To many of the advocates on the BNW Forums and Message Board, BNW stands for the principle that no individuals or groups should have the right to capriciously silence dissenting voices in forums that purport to cater to the public.
In 2001, the BNW portal debuted as a key outlet for expressing the views held by Nigerians and Biafrans who were unjustifiably censored both at home and abroad. BNW became the independent press, which countered news outlets of the Nigerian Diaspora that had become mouthpieces of the Abuja Government and its offshoots in the various subdivisions of that country.
Today, BNW serves the purposes that gave rise to its formation, even as the site has grown from one Message Board into a vast Internet portal, encompassing the BNW Magazine, the BNW News, the Writers's Block, premier content management systems and blogging facilities, and of course, the intellectually spontaneous BNW Forums and Message Board, all with readership, contributions, and participation from people across the globe. In spite of its extraordinary growth, BNW has remained true to its founding principles. It has refused to compromise those principles, a stance that has earned it respect from friends and foes alike.
On this fifth anniversary, we at BNW are excited about the future. As we move into that future, BNW remains committed to its patrons, and we look forward to continuing to expand the services that we provide, while maintaining our leadership and record as the most technologically reliable African portal and one of the most reliable portals on the Internet. In the near future, our patrons can look forward to increased multimedia content as well hardcopy of some of our publications.
We thank all of our members for their commitment and participation. It is our pleasure to serve.

I wish BNW more glorious years ahead and I hope that other people who have been associated to BNW in one way or the other feel the same way too, I sincerely believe that you guys out there are doing a great JOB as you are a captured animated bunch of wonderful Editors, Journalist and Web-marvericks.
Keep the good work up as there is hardly any other Site on the internet that represents our people more than you as the numerous reading on your web would attest to that.
Have a nice Birth Day at 5.

Dear brothers/sisters at BNW - It pleases me greatly to congratulate you for the 5th year mileage you have registered. Who in the world would expect a site like yours, bearing Biafra, before nigeria, to survive these many years, given that the word Biafra gives very many dicks in nigeria a hell of a time? It is fate; fate my friends, for qui serra, serra. I thank you all for for anchoring some of my pieces, and deeming and in fact considering and deeming whatever cheap pen I use to scrible all that you anchor - "Mighty". I have at times wondered who it was that coined the phrase - "Opara's Mightier Pen". I thank you for this recognition, to which I have referenced note less than once. Once again, congratulations. Kudos to you and keep up the great work. Yours Peter Opara.
