Religious crisis brews at College of Education

RELIGIOUS crisis is now looming at Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo over the suspension and expulsion of five muslim students for wearing and abetting the use of veils (hijab) in the school premises Already, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Ondo State area unit, has warned the school authority to reinstate the expelled/suspended students to avoid religious riot in the institution.

The four muslim students expelled by the college included Miss Aminat Abayomi Akanbi (400 level Degree History); Miss Sadiat Bukola Omotosho (NCE II, Computer Science/Economics); Miss Fadilat Oluwakemi Adegbenro (Degree 1 Yoruba); and Mr. Surajudeen Saheed Badmus (NCE 1, Computer Science/Economics).

The fifth student, Mr. Murtadha Fakunle Ajayi (English Degree III) was suspended for two semesters fore being "an accomplice in the threat to the college authority and causing tension and panic in the college. The four students, according to the school authority were expelled with immediate effect "for breaching their matriculation oath.

"Their action is an act of disobedience to college authority and a threat to peace and security in the college premises. In other words, the habit of wearing veils could encourage cultism and examination malpractices", the college authorities stated. According to the college, the decision was taken sequel to the recommendation of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee in its report submitted to the management.
